Zaap Thai Street Food York
If you ever find yourself wandering the charming streets of York and craving bold, authentic Thai flavours, there’s one name that locals and foodies alike keep whispering with excitement-Zaap Thai Street Food York. Nestled at 7 Lendal, this vibrant eatery isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a full-on sensory dive into the bustling street food culture of Bangkok, without needing to board a flight.
From the moment you step inside Zaap York, it’s clear this place is about more than just food. Neon signs, tuk-tuks turned into dining booths, and colourful décor set the tone for an immersive experience. It’s energetic. It’s unapologetically loud in the best way. And yes-it’s wheelchair-accessible, making it an inclusive space for everyone to enjoy.
Let’s talk food-because that’s where Zaap really brings the heat. Their Pad Thai Bo Ran N is a standout-sweet, savoury, tangy, and perfectly balanced. If you’re into something with a kick, the Drunken Noodles (Pad Kee Mao) will not disappoint. It’s one of those dishes that makes you pause after the first bite, slightly surprised at how flavourful street food can be when it’s done right. And vegetarians, don’t worry-they’ve got you covered with options like Gang Panaeng with Tofu and the Bangkok Veggie Platter N V, both bursting with freshness and zing.
You could easily build an entire meal just from the starters. The Dim Sum, Chicken Satay, and Spring Rolls are favourites for a reason-crispy, juicy, and layered with bold spices. Want something fun and surprising? Try the Chicken and Waffles, an unexpected twist that blends comfort food vibes with Southeast Asian spice.
But here’s the insider tip-don’t skip dessert. The Fried Banana paired with ice cream is straight-up comfort food gold, and their Coconut Soup can serve as a sweet finish or a light, satisfying starter. Oh, and for those who like sipping while they snack, Zaap offers a solid drinks menu featuring Thai tea, cocktails, spirits, and imported Thai beer. Whether you're into Mango Mojitos or just a good cold Singha, there’s something to raise your glass to.
What sets Zaap apart is the consistency. The portions are generous, the presentation is vibrant, and the flavours never feel watered down for Western palates. It's Thai street food, just as it's meant to be-fast, fresh, and fiery when needed. They’ve also nailed the sweet spot for casual meet-ups, solo dining, and even group feasts. Want something quick? They’ve got you. Prefer to chill and enjoy course after course? Also covered.
Service is friendly and fast, and though they don’t do delivery, you can swing by for a takeaway if you're in a rush. That said, eating in is half the fun-just for the vibes alone. And while there’s no on-site car park, the central location makes it a breeze to reach by foot, bike, or public transport.
Zaap Thai Street Food York has clearly earned its reputation as a local go-to for both lunch breaks and dinner plans. It’s more than just a spot for a quick bite-it’s an experience that captures the heart of Thai street cuisine, right in the middle of York. Whether you're new to Thai food or a long-time lover of the cuisine, it's the kind of place that might just become your new favourite haunt.

I’m really sorry to post pictures here, and I want to start by saying that I’m a big fan of yours. However, I was very upset when I ordered your food. The containers you used were not suitable for hot food, which caused them to soak, leak, and make a mess—from the front of my house all the way to my kitchen. Please consider using these containers only for cold food, and switch to more appropriate ones for hot items.
From the moment of stepping into zaap, the serving staff greeted us with a warm welcome and smiley faces. They were very accommodating and helped suggest some side dishes that they recommended. The food came fast yet you didn’t feel like you were being rushed. The food itself was really nice and I’d definitely visit again!
Great lunch deal here at Zaap! 2 courses for £12 is such a bargain. The starters were okay, tasty enough. The main were delicious, particularly the Massaman Curry. You still get a decent main portion as part of the deal.
Food is tasty as if you dine in Thailand. Service is great! Price is reasonable to portion. Decor is excellent!
Can't fault anything. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, made recommendations based on dietary requirements and the food was perfect. Full of flavour and cooked to perfection.
